WHO WE ARE
Our ethos is to do our best to remain curious and humble and avoid presuming that we have all the answers to all the problems children, young people and parents bring to us.
The first thing we do is listen and be open to learning from them. From this standpoint we build together on their strengths and help them to achieve their goals for the intervention but also for life. CBT WORKS provides accredited CBT for children from the age of seven, adolescents and young adults from twelve to twenty five.

We are located in Tramore, Co. Waterford just a short stroll from the beach and can use this resource to aid the therapy process at times. Conducting therapy in nature can be beneficial. We also offer online sessions if required.

What is Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?
CBT focuses on the links between thoughts, feelings and behaviour, especially the way that unhelpful thoughts lead to and maintain distressing feelings and behaviours that can be a problem.
The therapeutic process aims to help the person to identify, understand and change both unhelpful thoughts and behaviours in order to feel better and be able to function more effectively in everyday life.
CBT is usually short term, structured and focuses on dealing with current problems and difficulties, rather than trying to uncover causes in the distant past although at times this will be visited if relevant. The therapist and the young person talk and undertake activities together to help with this process.
The process of CBT
This will normally take between eight and twelve sessions, usually once a week and lasting up to an hour. The first and last sessions may be longer and often involve discussions with key people in the young person’s life like parent’s /guardians and teachers.
Sessions involve goal setting, problem solving and trying out new skills and ways of thinking. In between sessions there will be assignments for the week e.g., thought diaries, practising new skills learnt in the session and trying out new ways of dealing with real life situations.
